Halloween Scavenger Hunt - Around the Neighborhood

Let your favorite ghosts and goblins roam the neighborhood in search of Halloween tricks and treats! Halloween is a fun time for a scavenger hunt—homes will be decorated, and neighbors will be expecting small visitors!
Ideal timing & location: Halloween week is perfect for this—pumpkins, scarecrows, costumes, tricks and treats abound, so set aside a weekend day just before the holiday for your scavenger hunt.
Ages: Appropriate for all ages, most fun for kids over 7 and groups. Since some tasks require visiting neighbors, be sure an adult or responsible older teen is paired with each younger child.
Advanced prep:
Choose your items and print up the lists on pumpkin themed paper. Plant any items if you have teams heading to specific locations.
- Print a list for each team
- Get a trick or treat bag for each player or team
- Assemble one “treat” bag for each team—you can use a Halloween tin or festive baggie. Fill with treats, for clue 16.
- Get a small pumpkin for each team for clue #4.
- Get a tub and a dozen apples for clue 7
- Get tootsie roll pops, ribbons and white fabric for “ghosts” (clue 12), cut fabric to 8” x 8” squares (the number you will need will depend on the number of participants)
- 1 roll of toilet paper per team (clue 19)

Just before the hunt:
- Fill the tub with water and add the apples
- Make a “ghost station” complete with lollypops, fabric and ribbons
- If you live in a cold climate, make sure all participants are dressed for the weather.
Ready, Set, Go:
- Create teams, making sure they are evenly distributed across multiple ages and skill levels.
- Explain the ground rules and any safety rules/boundaries to the teams.
- Set a time limit for completion
- Pass out the lists, and watch the fun!

The winning team will:
- Have gathered each item on the list
- Completed each task
- Correctly answered clue 3
