Rainy Day Indoors Scavenger Hunt

When rainclouds form and the kids are bored, consider an inside only scavenger hunt to keep everyone occupied and sane. The items on the list are all commonly found inside most homes, but if you don’t have a particular item or location, just substitute something else or you can purchase it from Amazon.
Ideal timing & location: Any day, but rainy days where you can’t go outside and everyone is a little stir crazy work best. The hunt will take anywhere between 10 minutes to 1 hour but will be a fun distraction from the rest of the day!
Advanced prep:
- Print out the clues, substituting any as needed to match your home (and how much work you want to do), put in small envelopes or fold.
- Hide the clues in the location described.
- Stop by the dollar store or Amazon and pick up some fun items to have as the “treasure” at the end. The 'treasure' can be anything that you think the kids will like. Some inexpensive suggestion include: small pull back cars, small dinosaur figures or even their favorite chocolate bars. Another idea is a movie that everyone can watch together or a game to play is a always a good prize.

Just before the hunt:
Hide the clues as indicated. If the kids are little, make the locations obvious, older kids will enjoy having to search a bit!
To win:
- This is cooperative, all kids have to work together to solve the clues. If successful they may receive a small prize!
Ready, Set, Go:
- Explain the ground rules and any safety rules/boundaries to the teams
- Set a time limit for completion
- Pass out the list or the first clue, and set the participants loose!
Clues: These are set up to be sequential, so hide each clue in the correct location—the kids will track them down in order. Have the prizes as the last item in your hunt!
